Mackinaw Island Michigan

Mackinac Island Bridge connects Michigan's Upper and Lower peninsulas
Mackinac Island bridge connects Michigan's upper and lower peninsula.

Next up, a week in Mackinaw City. I first saw Mackinac Island in the Christopher Reeve's 1980's movie, Somewhere in Time set at the Grand Hotel on the Island.  The hotel is beautiful from the outside, I can't imagine how beautiful it is on the inside.  Dave had told me about it years ago, and the beauty of the island did not disappoint.  There are only a few options to move about the island, walking, riding a bicycle, horse back, or a carriage ride.  How very charming.  We arrive on the island via ferry, since there are no cars on the island, no sense having a bridge.  So, we set off on foot to explore the island.  We soon realized that while we were enjoying the walk, in order to see more of the island, we needed to take a carriage ride.  I would definitely recommend that if ever visit the island, take the carriage ride.  Bikes would be a great option also, but it was a hot day, so the ride was a wonderful option.  We had a great day on the island, definitely recommend a visit.

ARCH Rock
Arch Rock is a beautiful spot on the island.  Lake Michigan is beauiful here.

Good bye Mackinac Island, until we meet again.  Hopefully next time we don't have to wear a mask.

While in the area we also visited the Catholic Shrine, The Cross in the Woods, located in Indian River MI.  It is a beautiful, serene setting, and  is the home of the worlds largest crucifix.  The cross was made from a single redwood tree.
If you are ever in the area, it is a beautiful place to visit.  Dave had visited here when he was a child in Michigan. So glad we visited, in this crazy time, it is nice to visit a place where you can take the time to reflect on your faith while surrounded by Gods beauty.
