It seems Michigan is full of surprises. Our time on Saginaw Bay was beautiful. With so may lakes and bays, there are surprises around every corner. The surprises are for me of course, Dave has been here before, of course, things have changed since he last lived here. Houses he lived in years ago, have been torn up for development. Lakes he played in, are gone since the dam broke. The the beauty of nature remains, the Great Lakes are huge and beautiful. Currently the lakes are pretty full because of heavy spring rains, so the beaches are small. We didn't go swimming, as they were also pretty crowded with people enjoying the summer.
The food has been pretty good. We have limited ourselves to only eating out is outside dining is possible, and we were lucky enough to find such a place in Frankenmuth. It is a city that Dave often has told me about with fond memories from his childhood. The city is exactly as he described, two restaurants, Zehnders and Frankenmuth Bavarian Inn still stood across each serving similiar food. We had the fried chicken at the Bavarian Inn, as that was what they were known for. It was a very pleasant meal on their deck. After dinner, we went to the Zenhders bakery for some treats to take home. The town has a very European look about it, and it was a pleasure to look around. We had a wonderful day, which included a trip to Bonners, a very large Christmas store Dave has told me about. Its nice visiting places you have heard about.
During our stay in Standish, we also visited Tawas Point Light Station. It was one of the many light houses we visited this trip. Most are closed due to Covid. But it is always nice to visit lighthouses, no matter where they are, after all, where there is a lighthouse, there is a beautiful body of water close by.
