We spent a week in Traverse City area. This was a another beautiful part of Michigan. Lake Michigan is beautiful. The water was so blue and beautiful. While it looks inviting, we've spent too many years in Florida to be able to jump in to the cool water. We visited many lighthouses and beaches. Loved the scenery and the cool air. Sleeping Bear Sand dunes looks a little out of place, but the scenic drive was amazing, and the Sand dunes stunning, it looked like an ocean. The dunes reminded me of the dunes in Oregon, but here, the only way to view the dunes was by foot power. Personally, I love walking, but not in soft sand.
This is another part of Michigan Dave is familiar with, so he played the part of tour guide again. He did a great job showing me around. The area is very diverse, quaint cities full of rolling hills, vineyards, farms and most notably cherry orchards. It doesn't seem you can go too far without another view of a body of water. There are snowmobile trails everywhere. This is definitely a place for people who loved to be outdoors.

Call us chickens, but we are not going down any further. Very severe drop, people keep dropping out of sight!!! |
Before we left, I had to try a piece of cherry pie. So we went downtown and found the Grand Traverse Pie Company the day before we left. Since this was a pie company, we had chicken pot pie with our cherry pie. Both pies were delicious, so naturally we returned the next day for a second meal. Yum.
Off to the upper peninsula. We left Traverse City and headed to the Upper Peninsula. This meant we had to back track to Mackinaw and go over the bridge. This bridge is very long and very high. I give Dave a lot of credit for driving the camper, car in tow, over this bridge. Fortunately, the winds cooperated, and we made it across without incident. Off to our next adventure.
