Pacific City Oregon

Pacific City, Oregon is known for its Dory fishing fleet, the boat is a open hulled and flat bottomed boat.  The dory is rowed out into the surf until it is deep enough to start the outboard.  Then when they return from sea they are driven up onto the beach, then trailered.  I did not get to see them launching the boats but I have included these two videos of landing and trailering the boats.  This type of launching and landing was necessary because the bar was shallow and severely limited access to the ocean.
They fish these waters for chinook, coho salmon, dungeness crab, albacore tuna and rock fish.

This launching site is in Kiwanda State Park which is in Pacific City Oregon

Huge Dunes line the end of the park and it was fun to watch kids trying to ski and snow board in the sand, which really didn't work out to good for them.

Its not secret Sue and I love the sea, and a trip to a Maritime Museum is a great adventure
I never served on a 44 motor life boat but it was something I always wanted to see up close. You can't see from this angle but there are straps that the coxswain and crew tether themselves to the boat with, so in case it rolls over they are not washed from the boat.
