On our return to Utah, we visited Capital Reef National Park. The drive there was beautiful, full or majestic snow capped mountains, and than it took a drastic changed to canyons. Another beautiful National Park.

Narrow canyon trails like we've seen in the westerns. You know the one the bad guys or Indians would ambush from up on top of the ledge. |

Trail up to Hickman Bridge |
A couple of days later, we took another ride, this time to Fishlake State Park. It was quite a different scene, though only 20 miles away. Here we drove to the top of a mountain, about 10,000 ft above sea level. It was a beautiful mountain, with trees blooming and seagulls and white pelicans flying around. A treat to our Floridian eyes. It was a mountain, showing signs of Spring, although it was June. We hear this is an unusually late Spring.
When we decided to leave, we choose to take the alternate route. Here we saw snow up close and personal. When the road turned white with about a foot of snow, we realized we had no alternative but to turn around and go back the way we came. That's part of the fun of this trip, we never know what we will see as we turn a corner. Dave wanted to keep going in the snow, but I urged him to turn around, after all, we do not have snow tires, and it would be a long wait for a tow truck.

Believe it or not, white pelicans. |

As we left out the back road out of Fishlake State Park, we noticed a little snow along road as we went up in elevation. Then when we reached the summit at..... |
