Moody Beach

There she blows

One of the Highlights of our visit to the southern part of Maine was a whale watch trip, and Susan is always happy to take a boat ride.  The weather was fantasic, the seas were calm.  The captain had to search for quite a while but we finally found a couple of humpback whales.  Earlier in the trip we saw a sunfish, an extremely odd looking fish that first appear like half of it is missing.   Another sighting was a basking shark, which I am told is the second largest shark in the ocean.  Unfortunately the photos did not come out well enough to tell that they were even a fish, so you'll have to take my word for their sightings.

Hard at work seated at the bow of the boat Susan keeps  an eye out for our pelagic friends

A visit to the Walker compound or the Bush compound, was a stop on the way to Portland.  The flag was not raised so they were obviously not home.

St Ann's Church is next to the Walker compound.

Hiking  a few of the trails along the coast near the Portland Head Light which I learned was a hangout of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse

Portland Lobster Company, which of course was the planned destination of our trip  to Portland.

Marginal Way cliff walk in Oqunquit

Chauncey's Creek Lobster Pier in Kittery Point was a haunt of Susan's when she lived in New Hampshire.  On both of our trips to Maine it was a must go to place.   It's laid back cool and they have good Lobster rolls, which is a tasty and lazy way of enjoying them.

We had a great time in Maine.  It is a wonderful state to spend time in.
