We have traveled from Washington all the way to Santa Cruz CA and have finally found a boardwalk. Unfortunately, it was closed. Coming from New Jersey, I am used to a boardwalk about every 20 miles. I have to say, this is the cleanest boardwalk I have ever seen. It must have one owner, because everything had the same theme. More of a Six flags that a Jersey boardwalk. Look like a real fun place to enjoy the beach and the Boardwalk. Fun fact - surfing was introduced to North America in Santa Cruz by three Hawaiian princes in 1885? I hope they had wet suits back than, because the Pacific is very cold. It probably wasn't warmer 100 years ago.
The pier was fun to walk on, check out the shops, and read the menus at the restaurant. It was too early for lunch. It took a while for us the find the sealions that were hanging out under the pier. You can hear them a mile away, so we knew they were there. Eventually we found a few observation areas cut out on the pier so you could watch them from above. They are always fun to watch and listen to.

We continued our trip down the coast to the trendy town of Capitola, where we had a delicious lunch at the sand bar, overlooking the beach and this colorful motel. It was a very enjoyable day.
