Our stay in San Francisco began across the Bay at Marin RV park. We were within a mile of the Larkspur Landing Ferry Station. This was great, because the ferry took us to the Ferry Station in San Francisco, and we are always up to a boat ride. And what a ride it is, as you pass San Quentin prison in the first couple of minutes, then Angel Island, the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island before finally arriving in San Francisco. It was truly a beautiful trip, much better than a bus ride.
We had a wonderful time in San Francisco. We spend our first day in Fisherman's Wharf exploring, and browsing shops. It was disappointing that this is in no way an active fisherman's dock. I'm sure it once was. Currently, it is full of stores and restaurants.
We also drove to Golden Gate National Recreation Area, where we had wonderful views of the bridge and a chance to walk over the bridge. We also drove thru Sausalito, which is a beautiful town. We than drove up US 1 north from the city for ocean views.
Our last day in the city, we visited Alcatraz Island, which was extremely interesting, the grounds were beautiful. It was first used as a military fortress in the 1850's. It was later used as a military prison, and later a federal prison. We enjoyed the audio tour for the prison. The history is very interesting, both as a prison and a military fort. This is another place you have to say, we are so lucky to have the National Park Service. It is wonderful to have this treasure preserved for future generations to enjoy.
We saw many of the sights San Francisco had to offer. I hope you enjoy our photos.
