Russian River has viewed from our campground. |
We are not exactly proud of the fact that we have carried two kayaks for thousands of miles and have not even got them wet, except for the rain and snow that have fallen on them while strapped to the top of the truck. Between Sue's problem with her shoulder and many other days that did not have the conditions, we haven't been able get into them in the water.
My research of the Russian River appeared at first that it would not work out for a kayak outing. The river was great and very scenic but anywhere we would be able to launch the kayaks, the current would have carried us to far down stream and there were no services from outfitters or uber available to get us back to the launch point.
Then I found this area where the Russian River ran into the Pacific Ocean which created a bay area, allowing us to paddle easily back when we finished our outing. The area was a wild life mecca and we were paddling beside seals, pelicans, cormorants,
otters just to name a few. The seals were as curious about our kayaks as we were about them and would pop up all around us as we explored. Sue had one seal pup that was fascinated by her and followed her around the bay most of the day.
So we had a great day on the Russian River, and exploring the coastal waters. We ended the day with a trip down the Pacific Hwy or CA 1, a extremely winding cliff hanging little road along the oceans but with amazing views.

Looking down from CA Hwy 1 onto the Russian Rivers bay and where is runs into the Pacific Ocean. Which is where we kayaked. |

The trip down the Pacific was breath taking in more than one way.

Day trip to Sanoma Lake State Park in search for another kayak spot, this was a beautiful area but winds would have made our yaks into sailboats and paddling back impossible. So we roamed the park and explored the area. |
