Dead Horse State Park May 13, 2019

Dead Horse Point State Park

Our second full day in Utah, we decided to go to Dead Horse Point State Park.  It is a beautiful park, where you see the Rockies in the background.  While we were there, there was snow on the top of the mountains. This is an amazing park located on a long mesa.  It has beautiful views of the Colorado River far down below us as it snakes thru, carving out the land as it has for millions of years.  The point is where you can view as it turns dramatically.  The scenery here was breathtaking.  When we left this amazing park, we returned to the second half of Canyonland, photos of which we included in our Canyonland webpage.

We will have to compare to Grand Canyon.

The park was named Dead Horse because the cowboys would force all the wild horses to the end of the mesa and then penned or confined there, they would take the horses that they wanted and leave the rest there without water or food to die.

I had to take a photo of this rock,  it was smiling at me.

This is the point where you can see the Colorado River turn.
