Kayaking Great Egg Harbor River
Since the first day we set out with our trailer each place we went to we were unable to get into our kayaks because there had been so much rain just before we got there the rivers were swollen and unsafe to navigate. Upon arrive in Mays Landing NJ, Sue was elated when I told her I had finally found a river we could paddle on and a outfitter who would transport us and our boats up stream.
When we arrived at the outfitter, I began setting up our kayaks for the trip and Sue went in the office to pay for our transportation up river. When she came out to help me finish with the kayaks, she told me we were set to go on a 5 mile trip on the Great Egg Harbor River and the van would pick us up soon. In a short time later we finally launched from shore and set sail. The current was strong and the water was clear and golden, the New Jersey scenery was beautiful as we guided our boats down the river.
I noticed the Mile markers count down to 5 miles and was a bit disappointed that our trip would soon end, I pulled out my gps to help find the lands and noticed that we still had almost 6 miles (as the crows flies) to go yet. Sue insisted my gps must be not working properly. 6 hours and 15 miles later we arrived at the camp. The lady told Sue 5 miles but meant 5 hours !!!!
Neither Sue or I complained we had a great "full" day in our kayaks, met great people along the way, and saw beautiful New Jersey scenery. By the way we both slept soundly that night.
