We were only one day from listing our house with a realtor and selling it, so that we could hit the road. Sue and I were cleaning the house from one end to the other to make it presentable for sale, but when we got to the kitchen all of our plans stopped. I noticed that there was water coming out from under the refrigerator, so I pulled it out to investigate. We then saw a steady stream of water coming from under the refrigerator, by the time I got the water shut off to the house we had several gallons of water on the floor. I ran for the wet dry vac and removed the water, being late at night I waited till morning to seek a contractor. This is not where our problems ended though, by the time that the contractor pulled the cabinets to see if the drywall was soaked which was three days, we found that in the dark unconditioned area behind the cabinets that mold had already started to grow.
We waited seven weeks for the insurance company to approve our claim, and now wait for the reconstruction to begin. Because our flooring and our cabinets are not in production any more ( and can't be matched ) we have to replace most of the floor throughout the house and get all new cabinets.
Fortunately we had a brand new trailer setting in the yard to live in, because we have no kitchen in the house and all the flooring is tore up. The entire inside of our house is tented and dehumidifiers and filter fans running. If your a HGTV fan you've seen what happens when the find mold in someones house you are essentially evicted.
So we are living in the trailer waiting for contractors to finish, then we will talk to the realtor someday in the future. The traveling adventure is delayed but not forgotten.
