Dayton was never on our radar as a place to visit, but we were staying a half hour away, so why not. We were lucky to find the Carillion Historical Park open in Dayton Ohio. Almost all of the many other attractions in Dayton were closed. We learned so much in this amazing place, we ran out of time. The park gave us a great history of Dayton. If we are ever in the area again, we will definitely go back to see more of this very interesting city.
Dayton Ohio surprised us in what it is famous for, the list of inventions
that either originated here or were further developed here was
amazing. The most remembered by us are the airplane,
NCR cash register and Delco. Dayton known as motor city II was
responsible for the manufacture of 28 makes of automobiles, with the most well known being the Dayton Motor car company. The
electric starter was invented here to to replace the back breaking hand crank once used to start
autos.
The Wright Brother had a shop in Dayton, where they started out with a printing company, than they worked on bicycles, motors and other machinery. It was here that they first started developing their plane, and where they lived for most of their life.
Dayton is known for hosting the first soap box derby, and the issuance of
the first speeding ticket. Unfortunately the US Air Force Museum was
not open due to covid along with many other places we would of loved to been
able to visit.
