While in Las Vegas, we stayed in the Circus Circus Campground. It is located behind the Circus Circus Hotel. It is the only campground on the Vegas strip, so it was very convenient, it even had a bus stop out front. We were able to catch the Deuce bus that runs up and down the strip, as well as to Fremont Street. This was very beneficial and made it easy to get around this city without having to worry about driving or parking.
Dave and I aren't big gamblers, we are more into enjoying the sights and sounds of the city. It was great to see the free shows the casinos offer, like the volcano show at the Mirage, the Bellagio fountains were amazing, and the Fall of Atlantis show at Caesars Palace.
In the early 90's while living at Edwards AFB, my family (Kristen, David and their Dad) and in-laws visited Vegas. We also stayed at the Circus Circus hotel. We spent time enjoying the free shows, a great way to entertain children while in Vegas.
Vegas has changed a lot since that time. The first night we were there, Dave and I took a walk up the strip. I convinced Dave that we should walk to Treasure Island, as they have a great show there with Pirate ships, or at least that is what I remembered. Dave loves pirates, but unfortunately the pirate show is no longer shown. How dare they change a show from 20 years ago. Trying to show Dave shows I remembered as fun during my prior visit at MGM and Caesars Palace, had similar results. I guess I should have done more thorough research. Oh well, we did have a fun time in Vegas, despite my inability to share old memories. After all, 20 years ago we didn't even know who Terry Fator was.
We had tickets to see Terry Fator, and what a show it was. He is as amazing in person as he was on America's Got Talent. We were totally entertained watching him and his puppets. This show was mostly a variety show, with at least 30 of his puppets of celebrities. It is hard to believe that one person can sing in so many voices. He even preformed duets with Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra puppets, as well as Elton John with Paul McCarthy. Carrying on conversations with two puppets, as though the celebrities were being interviewed by him. Terry's celebrity impersonations are incredible. He is amazing to watch on TV, but unbelievable in person. It was a fantastic show.
Fremont Street Experience
Fremont Street was a totally unexpected surprise. This is an older section of Vegas, far removed from the Strip. Experiencing it is like being at a very large street party. Full of bars and restaurants and incredible neon lights. We went on our last night, and wished we had gone here first. It was the middle of the week, and there was so much going on. They had a wonderful band playing on stage. The band was all dressed up for Halloween and their costumes were amazing. (Sorry we didn't take a picture). This is definitely where the party is happening. If we ever come back to Vegas, this will definitely be our first stop.
The first thing that caught our eyes as we walked up Fremont St, was the Heart Attack Grill. Unlike most places that have a ridiculously large item on the menu, where you can have the item for free if you can finish it, the Heart Attack Grill offers you a large multi patty heart attack burger that is over 2,000 calories. You have to dress up like a hospital patient when you order. If you don't finish, the waitresses, dressed as a nurse, will spank you. Not sure if that is for any menu item, or just the extreme items.
We had dinner before arriving on Fremont Street, so we can not vouch for the quality of the burger, but it looks like a fun unique experience.
Fremont Street was a lot of fun, would definitely go back if there is a future trip to Vegas. With that, our Vegas stay comes to an end. We are off to the Grand Canyon.
