Tijeras, New Mexico

In the theme of our adventure across the country, I feel the following video's music says it all !!!!!!!!

Tijeras, NM is just East of Albuquerque,  well known for Rt 66 history.  Most of the old Landmarks are gone.  There are occasional neon motel signs in vacant lots, and a few vacant dilapidated old touristy stops on Rt 66.

San Felipe de Neri Church in Old Historic Downtown Albuquerque.

Built in 1793 this church is one of the oldest buildings in Old Town.  It dates from the Spanish Colonial period.

The Old Downtown area was a town square type area which is now filled with tourist trap type stores.  San Felipe de Neri Church stands out as the focal point.

Now we're talk'n Sue took me to Route 66 Diner

Memorabilia beside diner

This clock says it all "Time to Eat"

Rt 66 meals have got to be hamburgers nothing else will do.  This meal is a true Rt 66 meal, (a real) chocolate shake, gravy fries, and a hamburger all the way.

I think that Elvis just moved.

A few of the old neon signs remain along the historical path.

Piedras Marcadas Canyon

This canyon is a Petroglyph Viewing Trail north of Albuquerque.   According to the National Park Service this is one of the largest petroglyph sites in North America, featuring designs and symbols carved onto volcanic rocks by Native Americans and Spanish settlers 400 to 700 years ago.

We had a wonderful afternoon hiking in this beautiful canyon looking for petroglyph, while also keeping an eye out for snakes.

This one is definitely my favorite.
